Tweeps have taken to social media to expose the true reason why Lionel Messi was in South Africa- and, it's not what we expected.
On Wednesday, FC Barcelona's squad landed in South Africa where they later faced off against the Mamelodi Sundowns. Among the players was superstar footballer Lionel Messi.
Messi is one of the most famous football players in the world and arguably the best. However, tweeps said the real reason he was in SA on Wednesday was not for the friendly against the Sundowns- it was for Zodwa Wabantu.
However, it's all just a joke. The fun began when a Twitter parody account for Messi wrote "“IZODWA YABANTU AM COMING #automatically on my way.”
Soon, Wabantu's manager, DJ Tira, added to the joke by claiming the Argentinian footballer asked for the controversial dancer's "numbers".
DJ Tira's tweet was seen as an invitation by tweeps to join in on the fun, and soon the memes came rolling in.
After seeing the parody account, which goes under the name Leonel Messi, Wabantu announced she would be cancelling the rest of her Australian tour and heading back home.
However, it was all just fun and games. Messi is happily married to his childhood sweetheart, with whom he has three beautiful children.
