For 4 years a mother, her two kids and 3 partners-in-crime went crazy - they shocked South Africa by committing 11 murders in this time period.

Marinda Steyn, Marcel Steyn, Le Roux Steyn, Zak Valentine, John Barnard and Cecilia Steyn (no blood relation to the other Steyns) were named the "Krugersdorp Killers" after they were arrested.

Barnard was sentenced to 30 years imprisonment after he confessed to his involvement in the crimes. His sentence was adjusted after he agreed to testify against the rest of the group and 10 years of his sentence was suspended.

The "Krugersdorp Killers" committed a number of crimes, murder being the most horrifying on the list.

The group was accused of fraud, identity theft, racketeering, aggravated assault and robbery. They also possessed an unlicensed gun.

It is believed that Marinda, a former teacher and mother to two of the members, was the criminal mastermind behind the killing spree.

On Wednesday 16 May Marinda was sentenced to 11 life sentences by the South Gauteng High Court.

The mother was found guilty of murder and was also sentenced to life in prison on charges of racketeering.

Marinda was sentenced to a total of 115 years imprisonment for fraud, robbery and illegally owning a gun and ammunition. She will be serving her sentences concurrently.

Marinda's legal team entered into a plea and sentence agreement with the state. Judge Colin Lamont asked if Marinda understood what the consequences of entering into a plea agreement would mean.

Ms Steyn‚ you understand that part of the agreement contains a series of punishment to be imposed upon you and that if you agree to life imprisonment‚ it means life?

Marinda calmly gave her reply.

One has choices‚ one has to bear the consequences.
