- Heidi's husband was caught up in a robbery and shot
- Heidi was left with three kids to care for all alone and her income wasn't enough
- Former Miss World, Rolene Strauss, and other well-wishers stepped in to help
Former Miss World, Rolene Strauss, and other well-wishers have come to the aid of a Pretoria mother-of-three who was in distress.
The mother, Heidi Els, lost her husband Francois on 29 April, Briefly.co.za learned. Francois was caught up in a robbery at a takeaway outlet and was shot and killed.
This left Heidi with the responsibility of caring for her three kids all alone. Her income as a creche teacher falls far short of the family's needs.
Ilze Geertsema, Heidi's colleague at the creche, teamed up with Rolene to write to Jacaranda FM's Good Morning Angels breakfast show about Heidi's situation.
Before long, well-wishers stepped up. Spar will help Heidi and her kids with free groceries for the rest of the year at a total cost of R40,000.
The Strauss Foundation will also contribute R10,000 towards school fees for Heidi's kids. In addition, King Price Insurance will be donating R40,000.
Thanks to well-wishers with hearts of gold, Heidi and her kids can now cope a little bit better with the loss of their husband, father and breadwinner.
