Making it on the pages of Cosmopolitan South Africa, Elle van der Burg oozes confidence. She radiates sass not only online but on the catwalks and in the studios.

Elle is totally fearless when it comes to modelling. Elle has been modelling since the age of 15 and it’s not just about beauty and fame.

Briefly.co.za learnt that by being a transgender model, Elle is representing the minority in a fashion revolution. She is creating a platform for those that have not been able to represent themselves.

“I’m an activist, model, and I also happen to be transgender.”

The opportunities that Elle’s career is offering is that of self-expression, celebration and pride.

“I think fashion is a great place to showcase the differences people have, including my own.”

There is still so much that has to be done for other transgender people in respect of the discrimination they face. She believes that her being the face of change is not enough exposure for the mind-set of people to be altered in a positive way.

“We have a lot of growth to do in the industry, especially how we portray gender and sexuality in the media.”

What Elle has accompanied so far is definitely a step in the right direction in achieving those goals.

“I feel proud to give other trans faces the opportunity to be visible in the South African fashion industry.”

Elle’s presence online has had a huge impact on her as an activism.

“You have to consistently relay your thoughts and views.”

To deal with tyrants and extremists lurking online is a daunting exercise. She looks at this in a positive light and she uses it as an opportunity to create change.

“And that’s going to do more than just sitting quietly.”

Elle has endured so much and still she echoes courage, genuineness and a strength to prove to others anything is possible. One simple step for Elle is, it starts with a simple decision!

“Embrace who you are, unapologetically.”

Big up's to Elle for sending out such a pertinent message and for standing as a pillar of strength for others.
