- Somizi recently opened up about his engagement to his bae, Mohale Motaung
- He revealed Mohale was the one who wanted to propose first
- But, he planned for three months to surprise his now fiance
In March South African received the great news that Somizi and his bae got engaged. Now, he opened up about the months leading to him popping the big question.
As Briefly.co.za reported previously, Somizi Mhlonga confirmed that he proposed to his bae, Mohale Motaung, while on their Paris vacation.
"Yes, I did. (It was) on the 'love lock' bridge with the Eiffel Tower behind us. I've watched too many movies obviously," Somizi said.
Following the engagement, Somizi also took to social media to show off the ring he bought his bae.
Now, the entertainer has opened up about the planning that went into the life changing decision. According to Somizi, he planned the big surprise three months ahead and he was stressed because he wanted it to be perfect.
"It needed to be right. I thought about it for three months. I was so nervous. The proposal was the worst (for my nerves)”, he told the Metro FM morning drive time show co-hosts.
Somizi also addressed questions regarding the gender roles in his relationship, adding they are both men who were born gay, “It’s not an act. It’s who we are".
He then said Mohale was actually the one who wanted to propose, which motivated him to make it a surprise.
"We did discuss getting married and the proposal, but he said he wanted to propose. That's what made it such a big surprise."
He then talked about the highly anticipated wedding date, hinting that it might be within a year of getting engaged.
"I wanted to wait for the right time to tell everyone, but eish. Paparazzi. I'm not a long time engager. I'm not talking about getting engaged 7 years ago. It must be within a year-ish," he said at the time.
