Major MV Mohlala has been fired because of remarks that he made after a brutal attack on a white elderly man.

Earlier this year he reacted on Facebook to the attack, saying that the victim's eyes and tongue should have been cut out as well.

Spokesperson of the South African National Army, Brigadier General Mafi Mgobozi, confirmed the news of the dismissal of Major Mohlala on Tuesday morning. The dismissal is final and permanent.

There was a long process in which the case was thoroughly reviewed by the Minister of Defence and it was found that this was a serious offence. The decision has been reviewed on request of the Minister and the Major was dismissed last week.

Pastor Braam van Wyk's son shared a photo of his injured father on Facebook on the 10th of March 2018 after he was attacked in his home in Randburg.

In response to van Wyk's post Mohlala approved of the actions of the attackers. He placed a photo of himself in uniform on his own Facebook profile and commented on the post:

Should actually have poked out his eyes and tongue so that the last people he would ever see, were the killers and he could go to his grave with the nightmare.”
Apartheid is in him. All of these old white people think we are stupid when they say they were opposed to apartheid. We will not forget what they have done. Now it is the white people’s turn.”

Initially Mohlala was only given a warning when the comments were made public.

According to AfriForum's Head of Community Safety Ian Cameron, the decision to dismiss the Major and take further steps is "fantastic".

Cameron also added:

AfriForum genuinely feels that there is a double standard where black people can say disparaging things about minority groups and get away with it. This is possibly a step in the right direction, although there is still a lot of work to be done.

The disgraced major has not been available for comments.
