Bafana Bafana squad for COSAFA Cup named

South Africa will be hosting the COSAFA (Council of Southern Africa Football Associations) Cup this year. Originally Botswana was to play host, but South Africa is acting replacement. Botswana had to withdraw as host because of budget constraints.

The tournament will kick off on May 27 and will end the 10th of June. Eight teams will face off in the first round group stage, before the top-six ranked teams join in at the quarter-final stages.

This year will be the first time that all 14 members of the COSAFA will be taking part in the competition.

South Africa's coach Stuart Baxter has revealed who will be manning the team that will be playing in the tournament.


Baxter has announced that there will be two players from other countries included in the team. Midfielder Gift Links from Egypt and Luther Singh from Portugal will join Bafana Bafana on the field.

Lyle Foster, Wiseman Meyiwa and Khulekani Khubeka are youngsters from the South African U20 squad that will get to play with the big boys.

Baxter has borrowed players from Kaizer Chiefs as well as Maritzburg United. One player worthy of note from Maritzburg United is Siphesihle Ndlovu, who will enjoy playing in the tournament.

Defenders: Taariq Fielies - Cape Town City, Siyabonga Ngezana - Chiefs, Innocent Maela - Orlando Pirates, Motjeka Madisha - Sundowns and Siyanda Xulu - Maritzburg United
