Police raids wrong house; shoots and kills Pretoria civilian

- Police officers were tracking a group of suspects involved in cash-in-transit thefts when they entered the wrong house

- There was gunfire and a Pretoria homeowner was fatally shot and his family injured

- The police could give no further details on the case

It is believed that police officers that were tracking down a gang of cash-in-transit robbers has killed a Pretoria resident.

According to reports the Kilner Park homeowner was shot after the police stormed the wrong house by accident.

The family of the man was apparently also injured during the incident. There are also reports that two passersby - two joggers - were injured during the chaotic event as well.

Fortunately, three of the cash-in-transit suspects were successfully arrested.


Sources report that the officers were hunting down the suspects and entered the wrong house by mistake.

There are several houses on the property where the suspects were believed to be.

The operation conducted by the Crime Intelligence Unit, the National Intervention Unit and the Special Task Force.

A police officer was also injured during the exchange of gunfire. The officer lives across the road from Kilner Park and ran over to help his neighbours.


A police source commented on the tragic events:

It's f***ed up. The suspects who were in their cars were seen in the street. When they saw the cops they fled in their vehicles.
Police stormed the house they thought was the safehouse‚ but its apparently the wrong house. For some reason one of the cops opened fire and then the others did. It’s a total mess.

According to reports a police officer stated that several people were taken to hospital with injuries

Its too early to say their conditions.

The officer did not want to say if women or children were among the injured.

Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi stated that three people were arrested and two people were injured. He also said that noting had been recovered from the scene and that the owner of the property would be questioned.

Captain Ilse Jones, police spokesperson, had confirmed that there was a shooting but could give no further details.
