If you have ever scrolled through Twitter you would realise that South Africans are funny and sometimes a silly joke on social media catapults a person into fame.
South Africa's entertainment industry moves at a snails pace compared to the speed of the internet which is why many South African comedians and actors build an online presence which eventually gets them noticed by producers, directors and casting agents.
Briefly.co.za has put together, with the help of zalebs.co.za, a list of eight South Africans who are proof that internet fame can lead to real fame.
Moshe crept into our hearts with his outrageous and hilarious videos which landed him a number of big jobs, the latest being on the popular show 'The Queen'.
Besides being naturally funny, Moshe is a qualified actor and knew that he had to work hard to get noticed and used the internet to achieve that goal to great success.
Farieda Metsileng aka 'Pharoah Fi'
Farieda is another one of South Africa's most recognisable success stories. The internet sensation landed a number a great jobs on popular shows such as MTV Base and MTV Africa.
She got the idea and inspiration to showcase her talent online by her former boss who was incredibly supportive of her career. She also learned a lot from another internet success, Moshe Ndiki. She says that Moshe taught her everything she knows about social media.
Farieda plans to return to social media despite her mainstream fame.
“I just want to create a one-man show, and have all the characters to interact...not sure how that's gonna happen, might go insane after that but we’ll see where it goes,” she said.
Lasizwe rose to fame during the scandal involving the Doom pastor drama and has since grown into on of Mzansi's most controversial internet sensations. The controversy sorrounding her is due to Lasizwe being caught in a few lies and she has been accused of stealing social media content and tweets.
Despite this she was able to land a gig at Tbo Touch's Touch HD online radio station and has secured a couple of deals, one of them being Fanta.
His real name is George Mnguni and has risen to fame with his hilarious parodies and recently got the nod to direct the fourth season of MTV's comedy show, 'You Got Got.'
His real name is Siyabulela Deli and thanks to his online antics he has featured on 'Morning Live' where he showcased his talents and is sure to pop up again sometime soon.
These next three are on the up and up and it won't be long before they become household names.
