De Lille shines as TV anchor but hilariously says Fikile ‘Mambalula’

Cape Town Mayor Patricia de Lille shone during her TV anchoring role on news channel eNCA last night — but ended with a gaffe.

Towards the end of her role on the show As It Happens, de Lille mispronounced former Cabinet Minister Fikile Mbalula's name.

Instead of saying Mbalula, she said "Mambalula." The ever-so-alert South Africans were quick to pick it up and before long, the video surfaced on Twitter.

Granted, de Lille's gaffe was not as hilarious as UDM leader Bantu Holomisa's, which even US rap star Snoop Dogg joked about as reported earlier.

However, it still caused some amusement on social media.

Fortunately for the Cape Town Mayor, she received top praise from viewers on her anchoring skills.

Many thought she was composed, fluent, and articulate. Some even thought she should quit politics and become a full-time news anchor. See some of their reactions below.
