A Kiambu man has warmed Kenyan hearts and demystified common stereotypes of men as cold hearted by volunteering to embrace a day-old infant dumped by the roadside as his own child.
Residents of Ruiru, Kimbo area in Kiambu county were left aghast after a cruel mother abandoned her new born baby for the dead on Monday 28, around 8.26 pm.
Taking to his Facebook on Tuesday, May 28, the kindhearted man identified as Chris Innocent Wachiuri, narrated how the little angel was rescued by a children's home and rushed to the hospital, where he was found to be fine.
"The baby was a one day old..and was taken by my mentors at Joy children's home and rushed to Ruiru hospital and had some checkups and the baby was ok...tests were done and the kid is well and kicking hard,(sic)," his post read.
The infant was named Hope Armani by the Children's home and Wachiuri willingly embraced her as his own baby.
"Being one of the big supporters of mum and dad of Joy fraternity with prayers they called me and gave the baby name Hope and I volunteered to be called baba Hope," he said.
Wachiuri condemned women who carry pregnancies to full term just to dump innocent babies without a care.
"Ladies why carry the baby for nine months and throw away the kid...may the spirit of fire not leave you in your heart and be disturbed throughout,"
The kid started clinic today and was advised to start on NAN until he turns six months. Help me Lord. Hustlers can adopt too...give hope each day you leave # Chris Innocent Wachiuri God bless you(sic)," he added.
His kind gesture warmed Kenyan hearts who applauded him saying God will abundantly bless him for braving the onerous task of bringing up a newborn.
"God chose you to be a blessing to this baby. May God enlarge your territories," wrote Hellen Ng'ang'a.
"Good people still exist.May God bless you abundantly," said Wallace Kibunywa.
Others urged him for a paybill number as they wanted to be part of the noble deed, while harshly castigating the man and woman who rejected the innocent angel.
"Baba Hope, may this girl grow in favour of God and men and may she also provide all that is required to raise her. Now I pray that the woman who threw away her baby to repent quickly because there is no peace for the wicked," wrote one Judy Kimweru.
