- EFF leader Julius Malema says no one would choose to be a domestic worker if they had their own piece of land
- The EFF leader said if people had their own land they would be able to provide for their families
- Malema and other EFF leaders attended the Faith Gospel Church in Khutsong on Sunday to ‘thank the congregation for praying for the EFF’
Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said no one would willingly choose to be a domestic worker and clean up after others for a pittance of a salary. Malema said if people had land there would be no maids.
Malema said if people had their own plots of land they would be able to feed and provide for their families because they would not have to pay rent on that land.
Malema said: "If they want me to clean for them, they must pay me R12 500 and upward. I will leave my land and go clean for them… They pay you peanuts because they know you have nothing."
Briefly.co.za gathered that Malema and other EFF leaders attended the Faith Gospel Church in Khutsong outside of Johannesburg on Sunday. Malema said he wanted to thank the congregation for praying for him and the EFF.
SowtanLive.co.za reported that Malema used his speech to remind the youth that they were ultimately responsible for changing the way the system works by ushering in a new revolution.
The EFF leader said the youth needed to ‘do what they believed in.’
Malema recounted how he had never listened to his mother when she told him not to join the struggle movement.
“I know my mother did what she did because she was afraid for my life, but, had I listened to her, I would not be where I am. She did all she did because no parent would surrender their child to the brutal system of apartheid”.
He said land was the cornerstone of freeing the black majority of South Africans from poverty. Malema noted that people originally voted for the African National Congress (ANC) because the party fought for land.
Malema added: “The founding principle of the revolution was the land because the land is everything”.
The EFF leader couldn’t resist taking a stab at the current ANC leadership of the country and said South Africa was being led by dumb people.
"We are led by dumb people… They cannot think. They think of their family and their stomach," Malema said.
