The outspoken owner and coach of Jomo Cosmos Jomo Sono has issued a stern warning to the newly promoted Black Leopards side. Sono warned that Leopards could not hope to win any matches in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) next season with its current squad.

Sono is not known to mince his words or shy away from controversy. Sono said he had already advised his ‘friend’ David Thidiela, the owner of Black Leopards, to bolster his squad with at least six or seven new players.

Leopards spent five years in the National First Division (NFD) and built a reputation as the team who always made the promotion playoffs, but always found a way to snatch defeat from the jaws of victory. gathered that Leopards finally got the promoted to the PSL after turning in stunning performances during the playoffs.

The side’s performances were thanks in no small part to talented players such as Phathutshedzo Nange, Marks Munyai, Karabo Tshepe, top scorer Mwape Musonda and Meshack Maphangule. reported that Maphangule is expected to complete a transfer to Orlando Pirates during the off-season. While nothing official has been confirmed by either club, the player himself has told the media he is moving.

Sono said Leopards needed to consolidate and bolster their squad with some quality players if they hoped to make any impact in the PSL next year.

He said: “If they go to the PSL with this team, they won’t win a game. It’s true. David Thidiela is my friend and I am telling the truth. He needs to get seven new players or nothing for sure.”

Black Leopards are expected to be a popular addition to the PSL, this is in part because the team was able to consistently fill its home stadium with supporters, a feat which only the big three clubs usually manage.
