- However, women missed out in the top 100 Forbes list
Boxer Floyd Mayweather and Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi are the world's highest-paid athletes.
This is according to the annual Forbes magazine's top 100 list covering the period June 2017 and June 2018. The magazine released the list on 5 June.
However, no woman featured in the entire list for the first time since the annual ranking started, Briefly.co.za learned.
41-year-old Floyd raked in a staggering $275million from his mega-fight with martial arts star Conor McGregor in August 2017.
He netted a further $10million in endorsement deals to bring his total earnings to a whopping $285million.
Second-placed soccer star Messi netted a massive $111million from his earnings at Barcelona as well as endorsements.
Tennis superstar Serena Williams, who was the only woman in last year's list, didn't feature this year after taking a break from the sport to give birth to her daughter Alexis Jr.
Real Madrid superstar Cristiano Ronaldo earned a total of $108million to emerge third. Conor McGregor cashed in from his fight with Mayweather plus endorsements to emerge fourth with $99million.
Brazilian and Paris St Germain soccer star Neymar completed the top five with earnings of $90million.
