Bafana Bafana midfield star Andile Jali has confirmed that his cell phone number has been hacked by a scammer. Jali reported the matter to police on Wednesday afternoon after receiving confirmation from his cellular provider.
SuperSport United midfielder Thabo Mnyamane fell victim to a similar scam while on holiday last week.
Jali is currently spending time in his hometown of Matatiele while he considers his options for the future. He is understood to be looking to return to the Premier Soccer League (PSL) and is in talks with the big three PSL teams.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Jali confirmed that a scam artist had hacked his phone in an interview with KickOff.co.za.
He said: "Yes, it's true, my phone number has been hacked. I have reported the matter and the police are investigating the matter.”
Goal.com reports that Jali personally wants to return to Orlando Pirates but the club has thus far not matched the offers made by Mamelodi Sundowns or Kaizer Chiefs.
The report claims that Sundowns and Chiefs have placed large amounts of money on the table, but Jali has been reluctant to sign because he hopes to receive an improved offer from Pirates.
Jali returned to South Africa this year after spending four years with Belgian side KV Oostende. His decision to remain in South Africa and his stated ambition of returning to the PSL sparked a bidding war between the big three clubs.
Jali’s future has been hotly debated on social media in recent weeks.
