The heartbroken father, who fatally shot his own son, appeared in the Lenasia Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning, where he broke down in tears.
The 50-year-old Gauteng father, Sibusiso Tshabalala, stood trial for a murder charge after he 'mistakenly' shot his 16-year-old son earlier this week.
A video posted on social media showed the father breaking down in court, while his wife and the mother of the slain child, stood up to comfort him.
"#EnnerdaleSchoolMurder: The mother of the murdered son is also here. The father broke down and she comforted him. @ReporterStar", the video was captioned.
IOL reported Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi was attended the case, sitting in the row directly behind the mother.
The incident took place on Tuesday night around 9 pm, where Tshabalala sat in front of his son's school while he attended evening classes.
According to the father's version of events, he dozed off and after a while heard a sudden knock on the window.
Tshabalala, who had a firearm with him, reportedly got scared and fired in the direction of the noise. His son died on his way to the hospital.
Earlier Briefly.co.za reported Sakina Kamwendo sympathised with dad after the tragic event. She said as a mother who she knows the devastation of child loss, her heart breaks for the family.
