Degeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, were holidaying in a couple of African countries, where they allegedly had a ‘life-changing’ experience.

Channel24 reported the married couple visited Kenya, Rwanda and Tanzania last week and their trip has since come to an end.

At the end of their trip, Degeneres posted a photo of herself with a group of African children, which she captioned, “Thank you to all of the amazing people I met on my trip, who helped make it so special.”

The tweet received a lot of comments, and some of them were not good at all. Briefly.co.za learned a lot of social media users were upset that the American star only showed the world the ‘poor’ side of Africa.

“You landed at a nice airport and stayed at a lovely hotel before your trip to find poor African children to take pictures with. But this is the only Africa you want to show the world”, @Chris_Goth commented on the pic.

And, when some tweeps tried to defend Degeneres, they too felt the wrath of angry Africans defending their countries.

Do you think Degeneres exploited poverty on purpose or are tweeps overreacting? Leave us a comment on our Facebook page or inbox us your story and we could feature it.
