Former President Jacob Zuma has been linked to reports that he allegedly orchestrated the collapse of the ANC KZN consultative conference. The conference was called off after repeated disruptions.
Zuma allegedly scuttled a deal that Cyril Ramaphosa had made between competing factions within the ANC.
He allegedly rejected a compromise list of candidates for the KZN leadership designed to bring unity to the province.
Zuma allegedly wants the ANC KZN leadership which was elected in 2015 to be re-elected. The High Court ruled last year that the 2015 elective conference results were null and void due to irregularities.
The conference had been beset by controversy from the moment it started. A group of disgruntled members went to the High Court to get an urgent interdict to stop the KZN elective conference from taking place.
The High Court issued the interdict which resulted in the elective conference being changed to a consultative conference.
However, repeated heckles, jeers and singing prevented Gwede Mantashe from delivering his address to the crowds. Mantashe accused the crowds of factionalism.
