- Violence in South African schools are quickly becoming a severe problem
- Learners attacking each other and the teachers are frequent incidents
- A video showing two learners attacking a teacher surfaced recently and South Africans are outraged
A video has been making rounds on social media showing two school girls beating up a female teacher. The video has shocked South Africans and caused outrage on social media.
The video was first shared early on Tuesday morning and has since gotten numerous reactions across South Africa.
According to a report by The South African, the attack happened in a Limpopo school, but it cannot be proved yet.
Apparently, the attack happened outside the school. The teacher has confiscated one of the school girls' phone earlier the morning, likely the reason behind the brutal beating.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the Limpopo Education Department did not confirm whether or not the attack took place in the Limpopo.
Sam Makondo - the Limpopo Education media liaison officer - stated that the department is aware of the video.
They cannot say at this time where the incident took place, but they will share the video with their district directors. This should help identify the teacher as well as the violent learners.
Makondo added that it is uncertain if the attack took place in the Limpopo at all.
Further action will be taken as soon as more has been learned.
Violence in South African schools are a real and serious problem
South Africans have been buzzing on social media about the video. Almost 20% of South Africa's teachers believe that schools are violent places.
Teachers don't have the necessary conflict management skills to deal with violent incidents - leading to escalating situations.
Many South Africans feel that violence in schools are caused by deficient parenting. Perhaps if communities got more involved in the lives of youths, they would be more manageable.
It seems that the South African society is in a denial about the level of violence amongst children.
Only when the adults are willing to treat the symptom will the disease of violence in schools be cured.
Some South Africans feel that the violence is a symptom of a deep-rooted problem in South African society.
Others worry about why there was someone filming the attack.
