- Nonhle's 54-year-old dad was once obese
- He worked on his fitness and completed the 2018 Comrades Marathon
- This was his first successful finish after trying three times
A proud lady has celebrated her dad who, after being previously overweight, completed the 2018 Comrades Marathon at the age of 54.
Nonhle Beryl shared her dad's inspiring effort on Twitter recently, Briefly.co.za gathered. She said her dad was obese at the age of 50 and couldn't even climb a tree.
He then decided to work on his fitness and entered the Comrades Marathon three times. However, he didn't finish the race in all his three attempts.
Nonhle's dad gave up after his third unsuccessful try. However, Nonhle and her brother and mom encouraged him to try again and even bought him running shoes.
He finally completed this year's edition — a gruelling 89km. Nonhle said she and her family are truly proud of him.
She even shared a photo of her dad when he was still overweight, and the difference between then and now is remarkable.
The story inspired dozens of Nonhle's followers and other Twitter users. See some of their reactions below.
