Dr Sindi Van Zyl took to social media to gush about the man she had been married to for 14-years.
Popular South African physician Dr Sindi Van Zyl and her husband, Marinus, have been together since 2001, and their love is still going strong.
Taking to social media on Tuesday, Van Zyl shared a series of photos of her and her hubby, which she simply captioned, “The best beard of them all”.
The Zimbabwe-born doctor and her hubby met in church and they had been together since Marinus, who works in the IT sector, courted her in 2001.
TimesLIVE reported in 2004, they tied the knot and have been happily married ever since, living in Johannesburg.
The HIV doctor’s posts gathered a few responses from South Africans, who praised the couple’s beautiful relationship.
However, not everyone had been so accepting of their relationship. Van Zyl admitted when she was still a medical student University of Pretoria, one of her professor told her to keep her maiden surname after he found out she was marrying a white man.
Briefly.co.za learned she explained her professor said it would have been unfair to patients to create and expectation in their minds with the ‘white surname’ and when they saw her, they would be disappointed.
She said she lied and said she’d use Sithole-Van Zyl, because she still had to pass her final exams. Luckily, Van Zyl and her husband did not let the haters get them down.
