A sudden attack during the early hours of Thursday morning left two people dead and another injured. The attacker was shot dead by the police.
An unidentified man stabbed two people to death at Malmesbury mosque in Cape Town. At least one other person is believed to be injured during this shocking attack.
When the police arrived at the scene, the man - armed with a knife - stormed at them and they were forced to shoot him. He would not heed their calls to stand down.
The Muslim Judicial Council shared the disturbing news on social media.
The police were called out to the Malmesbury Masjied very early on Thursday morning. They arrived at the scene to find two people stabbed to death and others injured.
They confronted the suspect but he did not want to co-operate and was shot. According to a report by Times Live, the IPID will now investigate his death.
Briefly.co.za learned that the suspect was estimated to have been in his thirties.
This attack could be linked to another brutal attack in KwaZulu-Natal at the Verulam mosque, but it is not confirmed yet. Three people were killed during that attack.
The police is believed to release more information as soon as they've learned anything new.
