- A statue of Nelson Mandela has been in the Parliament Square in England for more than 10 years
- Now a British politician, Alun Elder-Brown, has stated he wants the statue torn down
- Elder-Brown wants a statue of a British convict to replace Mandela's statue
Standing proudly in Parliament Square in England is a statue of late Nelson Mandela.
The statue is a piece of South African history in the United Kingdom and has been since 2007. It is a big tourist attraction.
But a UK politician Alun Elder-Brown has stated that he wants the statue torn down - and replaced with a statue of a convicted criminal.
Rip down Mandela's statue in Parliament Square and replace it with one of Free Tommy a home-grown freedom fighter.
Elder-Brown of the UK Independence Party believes that a statue Tommy Robinson is a good idea.
Tommy Robinson has been imprisoned for filming a court trial after a court ban on reporting details of the trial.
But that is not all Robinson is guilty of.
According to a report by The South African, Robinson has previously assaulted a police officer, is often breaching the peace, and has been found guilty of contempt of court.
Robinson is described as a hooligan - a person with violent and abusive behaviour.
According to Elder-Brown, his convictions are what qualifies him to have his statue replace Mandela's. He also called Mandela a convicted terrorist.
Briefly.co.za learned that the UK Independence Party do not agree with Elder-Brown's opinion and have distanced themselves from his comments.
People reacted to the suggestion on social media.
Jonathan Purle - I'm no lefty, but Mr Robinson's CV ought to disqualify him from having most things, statue amongst them.
