Everyone is guilty of adding a little 'colour' to their stories once or twice in their lives. But sometimes people take their stories a little too far to be believed.

Thanks to social media people get to witness such mishaps and comment on them, as the young lady - who's dad apparently saved her from a life in slavery - found out.

Twitter user @zimmie told her story on social media of her dad risking his life to save her after she was kidnapped.

She told that her father swam 13km to save her and her friend from the huge containers they were in - on their way to Iraq. Because obviously the kidnappers told her exactly where they were taking her.

@zimmie added that her dad lost one arm to a shark attack during the incident.

Briefly.co.za learned that @zimmie told her story in hopes of winning R 2000 in an online competition looking for South Africa's best dad.

Needless to say, tweeps had a field day with this story.

One tweep even took it upon himself to Google the photos @zimmie used for her story. One of them was found to be a stock photo.

@zimmie's story just seems too much to handle for Twitter users.

Most tweeps just found the story hilarious and shared it with their friends.

Jokes were made about the story sounding like a movie plot:

Twitter user @DukeOfZilch also Googled the images and found that they are copyrighted.

Many tweeps pointed out some of the hard to believe parts of @zimmie's story.

@zimmie was also mentioned for a Didn't Happen of the Year Award.

Despite the many people saying this story did not happen and that @zimmie was telling a cock and bull story, the young woman insisted her story is true.

Perhaps the story is true and this girl's father is a brave, brave man. Who can really tell what is true and what isn't these days? Miracles happen every day.
