- The St Oak Church of Christ is planning an event on the 30th of June and the 1st of July that would have included gospel stars Dr Tumi and Lebo Sekgobela
- The two gospel singers pulled out of the event without giving reasons and people assume it's because of Somizi's involvement
- Somizi will be appearing as a guest preacher at the event in North West
It is reported by the Sowetan that Gospel stars Lebo Sekgobela and Dr Tumi have dropped out of a church show at the St Oak Church of Christ because Somizi Mhlongo will be part of the show.
Somizi will be a guest preacher at the consecration festival in North West. The event is scheduled to take place on the 30th of June and the 1st of July.
Apparently, the pair changed their minds about being part of the show after actress Sophie Ndaba, organiser of the event, sent them a poster of the upcoming show.
Sekgobela also sent out a notification without explanation:
GREETINGS FAMILY...!KINDLY NOTE THAT I'M NOT MINISTERING AT ST OAK CHURCH OF CHRIST ON THE 3OTH JUNE 2018. THE ORGANISERS HAVE BEEN INFORMED OF THE DECISION. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. LOVE YOU"
Bishop Sello Mogodiri stated that if the two really did pull out because of Somizi, they need "deliverance".
Christians are not supposed to be judgemental.
Briefly.co.za learned that despite the two stars not giving any reasons for withdrawing from the show, many fans applauded them for it.
This is blasphemy to the church of Christ! Good decision by Lebo and Tumi - Mosquer
Good decision by Lebo and Tumi. - lombojazz
However, others felt that withdrawing because of Somizi is not right:
Mogodiri said: "If what is said on social media is true, that they didn't want to share the stage with Somizi, then they need deliverance because Christians are not supposed to be judgmental." == Well Said Mogodiri, i dont expect people like Tumi & Sekgobela to be judgemental since e le batho ba modimo, its completely wrong. - Dorakie
Religious people would rather be robbed blindly by charlatans like Bushiri than listen to a gay person? & yet they are the first ones to say 'do not judge'? SMH - mbulazi
Sekgobela's manager and husband stated that she pulled out because she had signed a contract which prohibits her from doing other shows at the time. She is to perform at Sun City.
Dr Tumi could not be found for comment on his withdrawal.
Somizi decided to keep things cool and not jump to conclusions. His manager, Thato Matuka, stated that the rumours are upsetting because it leans towards homophobic behaviour.
