- Renowned cleric Evan Mawarire slammed the ceremony as being unnecessary
- And Facebook users agreed with the pastor, adding their trying to hard to win votes
In every country, politicians have a lot of important matters to attend to. So, it is no surprise that social media users freaked out when a Zimbabwean minister was photographed “officially opening” a garbage bin.
News24 reported Zim’s Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa attended an official garbage bin opening ceremony the north-eastern town of Rusape, and the pics shook social media.
And, Briefly.co.za learned the ceremony was attended by several other ministers as well, not to mention the large crowd of residents who joined them.
ZWNews reported the bin was "in line with the health ministry's bid to promote a clean environment in the country following outbreaks of diseases as a result of garbage dumping at undesignated places".
Taking to social media, cleric Evan Mawarire posted some of the images where he slammed the entire ceremony for being unnecessary.
Zimbabwean citizens shared Mawarire’s views on the finance minister officially opening garbage bins.
Kombez JT wrote, “The truth is chinamasa and Crew are clueless on how to turn the economy around pastor E. We need new vibrant brains not these old bafoons. To all the youths out there let's vote wisely for our future.”
“I dont blame them. We have let them toss us left, right and centre so much so, that they take us to be gullible. Why would you even attend such an event. We need to change our mentality,” Joyce Mrehwa added.
Stephen Mahapari, “Thats insane ,some are celebrating spaghetti roads, schools, hospitals, standard of living,.. .Finance minister driving from harare to rusape ,to celebrate a bin ,while people are dying of hunger and nothing to put into that bin”.
However, there are people who feel Zimbabweans should look past him opening a bin and see it as a symbol for better things to come.
“Its not just opening a bin but a symbol of kicking off a campaign to keep the city clean.Give us accurate information pliz Stop being biased wakumakisa manje munhu wa pastor kuswero taura zvekunyepa. Pasi ne zanu but musativhare kumeso”, Bright Zishiri added.
