Portugal international Cristiano Ronaldo has disclosed why he is growing a beard during the 2018 FIFA World Cup
The 33-year-old scored a hat-trick for the European champions in their match against Spain, in a thrilling game that ended 3-3.
Ronaldo, was seen rubbing his chin whenever he scored which many took it as a subtle dig towards rival Lionel Messi.
The Argentine playmaker is widely considered by many observers as the “G.O.A.T” (greatest of all time) but that could not be further from the truth.
“This goatee? It’s a joke I had with [Ricardo] Quaresma,” he said in a post match interview following Portugal’s 1-0 victory over Morocco with him proving to be the difference once more.
“We were in the sauna [before Friday’s match against Spain] and I started to shave and I left the goatee – I said if I score tomorrow I would leave it for the rest of the tournament. And it gave me luck, I scored that game, I scored this one, so it stays.”
The Real Madrid talisman scored his fourth goal of the tournament which makes him the most prolific European goal scorer at international level.
His goal against Morocco moves him into 85 goals across 152 outings, one more than the legendary Ferenc Puskas (though his 84 goals came in 85 matches), which only leaves Ali Daei of Iran (109 goals) ahead of him in the all-time standings.
Meanwhile, Georgina Rodriguez have sparked off rumours about her engagement with the Portuguese star as she flaunts her £615,000 during Portugal's match against Morocco.
The 24-year-old wore a Portugal jersey with Ronaldo written on the back as her partner scored the only goal of the match.
Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had earlier reported Cristiano Ronaldo bagged a hat-trick in Portugal's 3-3 draw against Spain.
Ronaldo converted a spot-kick as Diego Costa pulled one back with a brilliant individual effort. The Portuguese captain restored the lead a few minutes before half time.
Spain came back again into the match as Costa had an easy tap-in before Nacho Fernandez scored a stunner.
A brilliant free kick from Ronald completed his hat-trick as both teams shared the spoils.
