Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby ‘Bobsteak’ Motaung says it was easy to lure former Mamelodi Sundowns star Khama Billiat to the glamour PSL team. Motaung said there were a couple of elements which convinced Billiat to put pen to paper with Kaizer Chiefs.

The Zimbabwean-born star was known to be looking to leave Sundowns at the end of the 2017/18 PSL season and had been linked to various overseas clubs in countries such as Turkey, Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan.

Motaung revealed that he had personally overseen the deal with Billiat, who was regarded as the most valuable available player in the transfer period.

Briefly.co.za gathered that Billiat signed a three-year deal with the option of an additional year with Kaizer Chiefs.

Motaung credited the unique manner in which Kaizer Chiefs operated and engaged with its players, staff and potential players as a big part of his success in keeping Billiat in the PSL.

Motaung said he not only engaged with Billiat but also with the player’s family during the negotiation process. According to Kickoff.co.za he said this was common practice when the club was looking to sign a new player.

He said Billiat and his family were welcomed to the Kaizer Chiefs family and that ultimately helped to secure Billiat’s prized signature.

When rumours first began swirling around Billiat’s future, Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane said he would do his best to convince his star player to remain with the club.

Now Mosimane faces having to replace Billiat and very possibly his other star striker Percy Tau. Briefly.co.za earlier reported that Tau has been linked with a move to English Premier League side Brighton.

The club reportedly made an offer of around R35 million for Tau. This led to a public spat between Tau and Sundowns bosses who according to Tau, were dragging their feet in accepting the deal.

Meanwhile, Billiat is expected to play a crucial part in reviving the fortunes of Kaizer Chiefs. He brings with him a wealth of experience both locally and on the continent and is a proven match winner.
