On Tuesday, tweeps had a front row seat to the effects nyaope has on families. They were introduced to Siyabonga and his family.

Fans learned Siyabonga had a bright future ahead of him, but his addiction to the drug that had been crippling township communities destroyed the rest of his life.

Today, Siyabonga sits behind bars. The nyaope's power over his life saw him stealing everything he could get hold off, in order to feed his addiction.

However, Briefly.co.za discovered the story truly touched tweeps when Siyabonga's grandmother spoke about the horrific effect his addiction had on him and their family.

According to the gogo, Siyabonga would steal anything he got his hands on, even her pots and their cellphones. He apparently one time even sold their mince meat, TimesLIVE reported.

JJ Chikita wrote, "#YobeMzansi this family took a brave step by getting him arrested, I’m sure it wasn’t easy for them but I hope he has learned his lesson."
‏"Nyaope is a real problem in society...it breaks families, it ruins lives. #YobeMzansi", Palesa Motanyane added.
