Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung said the club would sign more players during the transfer window. Motaung said he was looking to sign two or three more players and hoped to make an announcement in the coming days.
Kaizer Chiefs have only signed four players during the off-season and is looking to bolster its playing squad ahead of the 2018/19 PSL season. Motaung said the club’s brain trust had been planning on which players to pursue in order to reinforce the strength of the playing group.
The club has managed to secure the coveted signature of former Mamelodi Sundowns star striker Khama Billiat and also secured the services of Lehlohonolo Mirwa, Virgil Vries and Andriamirado Andrianarimanana.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Motaung repeated an earlier sentiment about trusting in the current playing squad. He said Kaizer Chiefs would not embark on a shopping spree.
Motaung pointed out that the club was still without a head coach. He said a smaller squad would allow the incoming coach to better prepare players rather than having to weed out players.
Kickoff.co.za reported that Motaung said the new coach would also be able to pinpoint what is needed in the player department and could then make the necessary acquisitions during the January transfer window.
The January transfer window will also allow the club to boost its player numbers ahead of the CAF African Confederation Cup. Motaung said the January window would be crucial for the club as it looks towards the future.
Briefly.co.za earlier reported that Kaizer Chiefs are desperate to secure the services of current Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter.
The lack of a head coach has already cost the club the signature of Andile Jali. The Bafana star’s agent revealed Jali signed with Mamelodi Sundowns because he felt it was risky to move to Kaizer Chiefs while the club was without a head coach.
