- A KZN mom of 6 lived in a mud house for 10 years
- Her municipality teamed up with well-wishers to build her a new home
- She thanked everyone who contributed
A 49-year-old mom of six kids has moved into a brand new home after living in a mud house for 10 years.
Briefly.co.za learned that Thandi Masango, from KwaLubisi in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal, had lived in a mud house for around 10 years.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Thandi said she and her family had to find ways of surviving during the rainy season when lightning was often a threat.
Her councillor brought her plight to the attention of the local municipality, which then teamed up with the Defence Force and local businessmen to build her the home.
A happy and relieved Thandi, along with her children, expressed their appreciation to everyone who contributed to the endeavour.
For 10 years we lived in a terrible house. I’m so grateful.
Thandi's family was just one among many across South Africa, especially in the rural areas, living in poor housing conditions.
Briefly.co.za recently covered the story of a family of 14 who live in a one-room shack in the Eastern Cape province.
