- Traditional leaders warn that anyone who tries to take their land forcefully will cause a war
- Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana stated that he will defend his land against land expropriation
- Zulu King Goodwill also said anyone trying to take his land will cause a war with the Zulu people
Land expropriation comes under scrutiny again as traditional leaders claim to be ready to fight for their land.
On Thursday traditional leaders came together in Durban at a National House of Traditional Leaders briefing. It was here that the leaders decided to make it clear how they feel about land expropriation.
Chairman of the Eastern Cape House of Traditional Leaders, Chief Mwelo Nonkonyana, stated they were prepared to fight for the land belonging to them.
News24 reports that the traditional leaders will defend their land against anyone who wants to expropriate their land.
Chief Nonkonyana said this is the beginning of war. He will fight anyone who tries to take his land forcefully.
Chief Nonkonyana isn't the only one to claim that land expropriation will lead to war with the tribes of South Africa.
Briefly.co.za reported earlier that the Zulu King Goodwill Zwelithini stated that those who touch the Ingonyama Trust and the land it owns would be declaring war against all Zulus.
This was after Cosatu voiced concerns over the land owned by the Zulu King being withheld from the poor who could benefit from it.
