The hilarious Twitter threads started when a tweep, who goes under the handle @Chris_matams shared a video of 'South African talent'- the only problem was the girl in the clip is American.

"South Africa has talent.. her voice is so good!", he captioned the video.

Soon Americans set him straight, adding the woman was not South African, it's US singer Lorea Turner.

However, one things tweeps from the States did not know about South Africans is if we want something we'll put up a fight.

So, instead of admitting he's wrong, @Chris_matams gave his SA star the name Duduzile.

And, not only is she from South Africa according to @Chris_matams, she is also 100% Zulu.

Things really got hilarious when Turner herself tried to set the record straight.

"I’m from America. Indianapolis, Indiana...317", she commented on @Chris_matams' post.

Her response only fuelled SA tweeps' desire to claim her for South Africa and soon the memes came rolling in.

Although the majority of SA tweeps joined in on the fun, some felt they were embarrassing the country on an international scale.
