It is only two weeks left before we celebrate Nelson Mandela's birthday and various groups and individuals have already organised a host of events to celebrate Madiba's legacy and make South Africa a better country.
Briefly.co.za has, with the help of iol.co.za, put together a list of five things that you can do to honour Madiba's legacy.
1. Shaving to Remember
The Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with Phillips is hosting a special event in Mary Fitzgerald Square in Newtown on June 30th. Food trucks will be present to supply eats and a team of 30 barbers will be available to shave a "Madiba Line" for those wishing to honour Madiba's 100th birthday with his iconic hairstyle.
2. Mandela Day Team Build Week
Habitat for Humanity South Africa (Habitat SA) is working with the Nelson Mandela Foundation, the Department of Human Settlements and local construction companies to honour Mandela's legacy by constructing 100 homes for 100 families in the Western Cape.
“At Habitat for Humanity we believe in a world where everyone has a decent place to live, here in South Africa we bring people together to build homes, communities and hope,” says the organisation’s national director Patrick Kulati.
During the Mandela Day Team Build Week from July 16-20 the public have been asked to use the following hashtags to spread awareness: #RememberingMandela #BeTheLegacy #NM100 #ActionAgainstPoverty.
Another amazing initiative has been organised to help raise awareness of the elderly who are in need. The #BeTheLegacy theme has been organised by The Association for the Aged (TAFTA) and is inviting residents of Durban to spend 67 minutes of their time at TAFTA homes. More information is available on their Facebook page and website.
4. Mandela Day Football Giveaway
Fives Futbol and Totalsports are working together for the Plant a Ball initiative which works toward continuing Madiba's legacy by using sport to inspire change and give people hope. The day will be celebrated with the gifting of soccer balls. If you want to know more or be a part of the initiative clicking here.

5. Music for Mandela
If none of the other activities inspire you than perhaps celebrating Mandela's 100th birthday with some music is more you cup of tea. The Minnesota Orchestra's Music for Mandela project is something that might interest you.
The Grammy Award-winning 90 member Minnesota Orchestra will visit South Africa in August and perform a five-city tour. A special tribute by Bongani Ndodana-Breen entitled Harmonia Ubuntu has been commissioned for their tour.
