Wayde van Niekerk's wife, Chesney van Niekerk, graduated recently with a Masters degree from the University of the Free State.

The athletics sensation sent his congratulations and best wishes to his wife on Twitter, Briefly.co.za gathered.

He posted a photo of Chesney in her graduation gown and wrote, "I pray the Lord's favour and presence continue in your life!"

A proud Chesney, who describes herself as a sociologist, also shared the exciting news on her social media pages last week.

Writing on Instagram, she revealed that she actually completed the degree last year but could only attend the graduation ceremony this year. She added:

I thought walking over the stage isn’t a big deal, but it surely brings a sense of pride and closure, knowing that it was all worth it and that this chapter is finally closed.

Chesney thanked her family and friends who supported her throughout her studies. She and Wayde got married in October last year.
