Trevor Noah is arguably the most successful comedian to come out of South Africa, but according to Canadian comedian Russel Peters, Noah did not get where he is today purely on his own talent.
Speaking to the host of American radio show Sway in the morning, Peters called out Noah for allegedly stealing his jokes.
The Canadian comedian went on to call Noah a Thieving motherf***er when Sway said he liked both Russel and Noah.
"Why? If you're a fan of me you don't need to be a fan of Trevor Noah. Thieving motherf***er", Peters is heard saying.
The remark took Sway by surprise and the host asked him why he would call Noah a thief, to which Peters responded he called the South African out on stealing one of his jokes before but he went and did it again.
Briefly.co.za learned Peters had the radio show pull up a video which showed him making a joke about Russians in 2016, while Noah made an almost identical joke only a year after Peters’ show.
IOL reported Peters went on to explain how he came to write the joke, saying his Russian fiancé was speaking to her mother on the phone and after she ended the call he mocked her by speaking 'Russian gibberish', to which she said it sounded like he was speaking backwards.
Noah is yet to respond to Peters’ accusations.
