The 14th season of Idols SA which debuted on air on Sunday night started on a humorous note. This was after host, ProVerb decided to play a trick on Instagram prankster Leon Gumede, by telling the judges to pretend that Leon's audition was the best!
ProVerb felt Leon only came to the auditions as a joke and needed to be taught a lesson by. After his performance, the judge's complimented his vocal skills and even mentioned that his husky voice was amazing. The judges’ decision to give him 4 nods really took Leon by surprise and saw him celebrating with cartwheel stunts down the hallway. The 26-year-old was later told that he had been 'idolistically pranked', as Somizi would say it.
While many viewers found the prank really funny and couldn't believe that the judges would do such a cruel thing, some were not entirely convinced by the act. Some Idols fans felt that the prank was completely staged and therefore did not come out as hilarious as planned.
