- Gogo Mmatema's house is near a clinic
- She noticed patients shivering in the cold while waiting to be treated
- She therefore started offering them free tea and coffee
A gogo with a heart of gold regularly offers free tea and coffee to patients awaiting treatment at a clinic near her house.
68-year-old Mmatema Rantlhwatlhwa, from Hammanskraal in Pretoria, decided to do something after noticing the patients shivering in the cold recently.
The kind gogo is a pensioner, Briefly.co.za gathered. However, she did not let this stop her from trying to keep patients warm this winter.
Speaking to Daily Sun, she said she sometimes offers them sandwiches:
I’m passionate about helping others and the community. It breaks my heart when I see elderly people and mentally ill kids suffering. Everyone is welcome in my home.
Her generous initiative inspired her fellow kasi residents to donate bread and sugar.
One of the beneficiaries of gogo Mmatema's kindness is 25-year-old Lerato Mulaudzi. She said she initially thought it was a scam of some sort.
However, Lerato realised the offer was genuine. She thanked gogo Mmatema for being a beacon of hope in her community.
Briefly.co.za recently covered the story of another kind gogo from Uitenhage who feeds over 100 people in her community every day.
