- Kavazovic is renowned as a Mr Fix-it in the footballing world because of his knack of returning teams to winning ways in short order
Nikola Kavazovic might not be well-known to the average South African football fan but he might well be the next coach of PSL giants Kaizer Chiefs. Kavazovic is currently the head coach of Botswana’s league champions Township Rollers.
The Serbian has dropped a series of hints in recent weeks which all seem to point to him being appointed as the next head coach of the Amakhosi.
Kavazovic raised eyebrows throughout the South African soccer fraternity when he posted the following not so cryptic message on Twitter after his side beat PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 on Saturday.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the tweet is in reference to the upcoming match between Mamelodi Sundowns and Kaizer Chiefs for honours in the newly formed Shell Helix Ultra Cup. The match will take place on 21 July at the FNB Stadium.
Kavazovic might be unknown to most South African soccer supporters, but he is renowned in the wider footballing fraternity as being a Mr Fix-it. He has a knack for turning struggling teams around in very short time periods.
Thesouthafrican.com reported that Kavazovic has applied this fix-it then leave policy at various clubs and even the Tajikistan national side over his 20-year coaching career.
This record of near immediate success and wasting no-time could actually be a huge pull for Kaizer Chiefs management who are desperate to return the glamour side to winning ways after enduring the worst losing streak in the club’s history.
Kaizer Chiefs might be worried about the flip side of the Mr Fix-it coin. The club is looking for long-term stability and success. Kavazovic’s current spell of 41 matches in charge of Township Rollers it the longest he has spent with any side in the last six years.
Also of concern would be how Kavazovic would deal with the added pressure of coaching one of South Africa’s big three teams. Kavazovic has never been in a league the size of the PSL, but experts believe he would be mentally strong enough to cope.
As recently as this week Kaizer Chiefs football manager Bobby Motaung said coaching Kaizer Chiefs brought its own special set of difficulties and challenges and it was not a position that just anyone could fill.
On the other hand, Kavazovic has an enviable 63% win ration with Township Rollers and boasts a record of taking his last four teams to six trophies. This proven winning record could just be very enticing to the Motaung family.
