The mayor of Johannesburg, Herman Mashaba, asked the Ministers of Labour and Home Affairs to meet with him.
Mayor Mashaba wants to urgently discuss the issue of illegal immigrants being hired instead of local South Africans.
EWN reports Mashaba stated that more than 900 000 Johannesburg residents are unemployed while businesses are employing foreigners instead of locals.
These businesses are ignoring labour and immigration laws as well as hurting local employment.
According to the Johannesburg mayor, it is the responsibility of the government to ensure that businesses and companies do not hire immigrants over locals.
Mayor Mashaba added the government must punish businesses who make use of the services of immigrants.
Briefly.co.za learned that the mayor is still waiting for a response Minister Malusi Gigaba and Minister Mildred Oliphant.
The mayor stated that immigrants with the right to be in South Africa should be given the proper papers. He added that it is time that opportunities are given to South Africans, they must come first.
