- SuperSport United have confirmed that James Keene will join the club
- Luke Fluers and Washington Arubi were confirmed as the other two signings for the 2018/19 season
- The club also announced that goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse would be leaving
SuperSport United had a busy week. The club has announced that it had signed three new players for the 2018/19 Premier Soccer League (PSL) season. The club confirmed that it had signed former Bidvest Wits striker James Keene.
Keene will be joined by defender Luke Fluers who joins from Ubuntu Cape Town and former University of Pretoria goalkeeper Washington Arubi.
SuperSport United jumped at the opportunity to sign Keene who left Bidvest after a two-year spell with the side. Keene has been signed on a one-year deal with an option for an additional year.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Arubi will make the jump from the first division to the PSL when he gets his first run for SuperSport. He will face competition from Ronwen Williams and Boalefa Pule for a spot as goalkeeper.
Fluers is a young defender who will be looking to gain some valuable experience from other players and the technical team.
The club’s boss Stan Matthews also announced the unexpected departure of goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse. TimesLive.co.za reported that Pieterse had grown increasingly unhappy with not being the first choice goalkeeper.
Last season he only played in 17 matches throughout all the various competitions which constitute the local season.
SuperSport United favoured Williams as its first choice keeper.
Matthews said although the club had not received an offer on Pieterse yet there were several interested parties, both locally and abroad.
He said it made financial and moral sense to release Pieterse. Matthews praised Pieterse as being a true professional and admitted it was in his best interest to find a club where he would make more regular appearances.
