- Winnie Ntshaba is back on our screen with a role as a witch on Mzansi Magic’s The Herd
- The former Generations star says this is the perfect role for her after Khethiwe Buthelezi
- She says working with her co-cast members is an amazing experience
Actress Winnie Ntshaba, is back on screens with a new role in Mzansi Magic’s supernatural drama The Herd. The 42-year-old plays the character of a witch called MaMngadi and she is killing it!
She was introduced to us as Khethiwe Buthelezi on SABC 1 popular soapie Generations. She came in as a maid and audiences saw the character take on different life phases that proved that life can never be predicted. From a maid, Khethiwe eventually became a model, owned shares in reputable property and ended up as a graphic designer. We also watched her transform from the naïve rural girl that she was when she joined Generations to lying, killing people, and committing abortion. However, this role is still not as dynamic as Winnie’s new character on The Herd.
Even after seeing her feature in roles on The Road, MTV Shuga, Isibaya and Sokhulu & Partners; Winnie’s part on the new drama series has truly raised the bar for her. Speaking of her dark character during an interview with Argus Sunday, Winnie says, “This woman is dangerous because she is living a double life. The only person that knows she is a witch is her husband. It’s how they obtained their wealth.”
According to Mzansi Magic, the drama series is about Bhekisizwe Mthethwa (Sello Maake Ka Ncube) who twenty-eight years ago was fired from his job at a butchery due to his leg injury. With no job and a hungry wife and baby, Bheki sought the guidance of the local witch, MaMngadi (Winnie Ntshaba), who promised him a bright future, if he was willing to make a great sacrifice. When we meet Bheki in the present, he’s married to MaMngadi with three more children.
Briefly.co.za gathered that the truth which was kept even from Bhekisizwe and MaMngadi’s children comes to light as the series gains momentum.
Winnie describes this as the perfect role for her. She told Argus Sunday, “It’s like a calling this thing. I would sit down and watch these shows and just miss being a part of it. And I got the perfect, perfect role.” Speaking on acting alongside Sello Maake Ka Ncube, the actress says, “I adore him. He will feed you as an artist and you will have no choice but to give back. So, it is like this give and take. In fact, everyone on the show, the level of professionalism and talent is amazing. Two of the kids are new in the industry but they are throwing themselves in there and you can’t even tell that they are starting out.”
The whole of Mzansi is excited about this new role that Winne has bagged for herself and we can’t wait to see how her character grows with the series.
