Snow blankets SA as Jack Frost pays Mzansi a visit

Snow covered huge areas of South Africa's mountains on Saturday in the Western Cape, Eastern Cape, and parts of the Drakensburg.

Lesotho was also paid a visit by Jack Frost and transformed parts of SA and Lesotho into a winter wonderland.

The popular Afriski Mountain Resort in Lesotho saw up to five centimeters of snow on Firday night and staff had to work hard on Saturday to make the roads passable. Sani Pass was also affected by the cold snap.

People across South Africa shared their pictures of the rare treat winter had brought snow to mountains across SA.

South Africa does occasionally receive snow during winter but this particular season saw a great deal more than usual.

Snow has been recorded in South Africa since 1853 and as much as 60 cm of snow has been recorded at times such as in 1886 in Molteno.
