Premier Soccer League (PSL) giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates have revealed their new-look 2018/19 season team kits. Both teams released images of their home and away kit via their social media channels.
Kaizer Chiefs have made a bold statement with their away kit which is very distinctive and very different from anything fans would have seen before. The club’s new home kit has a somewhat more traditional look although the refresh is clear to see.
Orlando Pirates have followed a similar strategy with a traditional looking yet distinctly refreshed look for their home kit while the away kit is bolder and more eye-catching.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Kaizer Chiefs have been working closely with long-time kit partners Nike to come up with a distinctive look for the new season.
Kickoff.co.za reported that Kaizer Chiefs marketing guru Jessica Motaung said the club she and her team had engaged and consulted with Nike in order to come up with a distinctive and historic kit for the new season.
Motaung said the celebrations around Madiba’s 100th birthday had inspired the design. Motaung said she felt Madiba would have been proud to wear the 2018 kit just as he had been proud of the jersey he wore in 2002.
The away jersey is dominated by purple which according to the club is a nod to traditional African royalty.
Orlando Pirates launched their new kit with much less fanfare and no statement on what inspired the new design. The away colour has changed from its previous white to a bold new red design.
Both clubs are expected to don their new kit when the PSL season starts on 4 August.
