There is an alleged sim swap scam doing the rounds in South Africa, but Black Twitter is staying woke.
Twitter parody account Man’s Not Barry Roux took to the social media platform to warn his followers against the scam, which obtains personal info through the touch of a button.
“This message is a Scam, Once you Press OK all your details will be gone. If you receive such a message don't Press OK. Retweet For Awareness,” he captioned the post.
The post gathered a lot of reactions and one tweep added it would not have mattered if scammers got his personal info, since his bank account is empty.
However, unfortunately the warning came a little too late for some tweeps.
Social media user @BanothiNzimande wrote, “They scammed me like this last February with MTN SIM card they took R2500 in my account fortunately it was my daily limit next day they bought R800 airtime vai mobile banking and it wasn't reporting because they blocked my number,I was so hurt and disgusted.”
Other tweeps just wanted to know what to do, since the message only gives a person one choice.
