Croatia’s President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic might just be the most popular politician on the planet right now. Grabar-Kitarovic has managed to win the hearts and admiration of countless amounts of people who watched the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
Grabar-Kitarovic has been hailed for her dignified and graceful demeanour during the awards ceremony after the final. The president braved the torrential rain which lashed down on Moscow and gave each player from both teams a hug and what looked like a genuine smile.
Grabar-Kitarovic had already made headlines throughout the tournament as she enthusiastically celebrated each time her countrymen won a match. She was often seen dancing in the stands among ordinary Croatians and became famous for celebrating in the locker-room with players after the match.
Briefly.co.za gathered that Grabar-Kitarovic joined French President Emmanuel Macron and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the VIP box while the final was being played.
When the final whistle blew with the French team emerging 4-2 victors Grabar-Kitarovic was seen giving Macron a hug and a kiss on his cheek.
DailyVoice.co.za reported that she proceeded with Macron and Putin to the podium to take part in the ceremony. While Putin was handed an umbrella, Grabar-Kitarovic had to make do without, but she did not let the rain dampen her spirits.
The scene has become one of the great moments of the 2018 World Cup and will be remembered for many years. Social media has hailed Grabar-Kitarovic as the perfect example to young people on how to be gracious in defeat.
Grabar-Kitarovic also set new examples to other world leaders, while she reportedly did not miss a single match, she always flew economy-class and bonded with her citizens by celebrating in the stands with them.
She also shunned dressing like a politician and opted to always be seen in the Croatian national kit. Grabar-Kitarovic did not miss a chance to promote her team and was seen handing out Croatian jerseys to Donald Trump, Theresa May and even Mr Putin himself.
