Cristiano Ronaldo was officially unveiled as a Juventus FC player during a glittering ceremony on Monday night. The Portuguese superstar joined Juventus from Real Madrid for a record-breaking €100 million (R1.5 billion).
Ronaldo dismissed suggestions that he was looking to wind down his career because he was past the prime of his life and said he actually viewed the move as a step-up.
Ronaldo was widely expected to leave Real Madrid at the end of the season with the only real mysteries being where he would head and whether he would get the money he was demanding.
Briefly.co.za gathered that while nothing has been confirmed sources close to Ronaldo revealed that he was unhappy with his salary at Real Madrid which he felt did not measure up to his status as one of the if not the absolute best player in the world.
Soccerladuma.co.za reported that Ronaldo leaves Real Madrid as their all-time record goalscorer, during his time at the Spanish club he scored 450 goals in 438 games.
Ronaldo said he had an amazing experience at Real Madrid and he thanked the club’s fans for supporting him. He said his move to Juventus was motivated by the need to embark on a new phase of life.
He said he felt incredibly well both physically and mentally and looked forward to making an impact at Juventus. Ronaldo said his motivation to perform remained unchanged and he was aiming to prove that he was the best player in the world.
Ronaldo spent nine incredibly fruitful years at Real Madrid and helped the club lift 16 different trophies. Juventus fans will be hoping for a repeat performance.
