- South African comedian Trevor Noah is under fire for a joke he made five-years-ago
- During a stand up performance in 2013, Noah called indigenous Australian women ugly
- This led to people slamming him for being racist, and then calling for a boycott of his upcoming Australian tour
In a stand up show The Daily Show host did in 2013, he called all Aboriginal women ugly. A video surfaced on YouTube of the joke and it infuriated a lot of people- however, due to copyright infringement, the footage has since been deleted from the social media platform.
Eyewitness News reported Noah said that “all women of every race can be beautiful,” then added, “And I know some of you are sitting there now going, ‘Oh Trevor, yeah, but I’ve never seen a beautiful Aborigine.’”
Briefly.co.za learned people are so angered by the joke they called for a boycott of Noah’s Tour Down Under.
Former footballer Joe Williams took to Twitter to condemn Noah’s joke, which he dubbed “utterly unacceptable.”
Commenting on Williams’ post, Noah apologized for the joke and said he’ll make sure it was not promoted.
However, his apology proved to be unsuccessful, with social media users continuing their #boycotttrevornoahinoz
UK media personality Piers Morgan also blasted Noah in a column he wrote. Morgan went on to call Noah a “shameless hypocrite, and worse that: a fraud.”
Morgan added Noah preached to people on equality and racism on a daily basis, yet he “does not practice what he preaches.”
“A man who says all Aboriginal women are ugly is not a man we should ever endure lecturing us on racism or gender equality ever again,” Morgan said in his column.
