Political commentator Sithembile Mbete recently thanked former University of Cape Town Vice-Chancellor, Professor Njabulo Ndebele, for being supportive when she had an accident.
In a Twitter post, Mbete said she had a bus accident on the way to a debating tournament during her first year at the university.
As a result, she had to miss an entire semester, Briefly.co.za learned. Fortunately, Prof Ndebele was supportive throughout and made it easy for her to resume the following year.
Years later, Mbete finally got the chance to personally thank Prof Ndebele for his support and to inform him that she's a proud holder of a doctorate degree.
She accompanied her post with photos of herself speaking to the veteran academic, who is now the Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg.
Mbete's post warmed the hearts of many tweeps. They praised her for not forgetting those who helped keep her academic dreams alive. See some of their reactions below.
"You're an inspiration."
"Humility all the way."
