Zodwa Twala, an 82-year-old woman from the Johannesburg region, is the oldest member of a boxing group dedicated to grannies.
According to a report by the Daily Sun, Twala and other gogos visit a gym in Cosmo City where Claude Maphosa, 40, train them in boxing and other fitness activities.
And, for those who believe boxing is not a sport for gogos, think again! Twala said her body functions properly and she is able to clean her house without any problems since she started her workout routine.
Maphosa said he coaches the grannies twice a week for about an hour and a half. The A Team Gym owner added the workout is healthy, it releases toxins and it is a friendly sport.
Briefly.co.za learned another granny, 77-year-old Gladys Ngwenya, said the boxing workouts helped her muscles grow stronger.
She added walking long distances were no longer a problem and her joints and back pains were much better.
“I feel young again!” she said.
It is not the first-time grannies surprised others with their fitness skills. As Briefly.co.za reported previously, ‘Soccer grannies’ proudly represented SA at World Cup’s Veterans League.
A Limpopo-based soccer team for elderly women represented South Africa at the World Cup in Russia even after Bafana Bafana failed to qualify.
